Hoisin Chicken Burgers with Carrot Slaw

These easy burgers have tons of flavor thanks to bottled Hoisin sauce, a savory and sweet Asian barbeque-like sauce. A simple, crunchy slaw rounds out this irresistible burger. I love serving these with seasoned tater tots on the side.
Hoisin Chicken Burgers with Carrot Slaw
Serves 4
1 ¼ pounds ground chicken
1 teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce, plus more for serving
¾ cup shredded carrots
½ cup shredded purple cabbage
2 tablespoons minced cilantro
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon lime juice (from 1 lime)
Mayo, for serving
4 potato hamburger buns, for serving
Shape ground chicken into 4 equal patties. (*Tip: Wet your hands while shaping ground chicken, to prevent sticking.) Sprinkle both sides of patties with the salt and pepper.
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 5 to 6 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook about 5 minutes more, or until meat reaches 165°F on an instant-read thermometer. Remove from skillet and brush both sides of patties with hoisin sauce.
Meanwhile, toss carrots, cabbage, cilantro, sugar and lime juice together to make the slaw.
To serve, spread mayo and hoisin sauce on potato buns. Place a patty on the bottom bun, pile slaw on top, and top with remaining bun. Serve immediately.
